VCC juniors at BC high school championship in Smithers

VCC juniors Bill Lou and Marcus Dee were curling in the BC High School Curling Championships in Smithers, Mar. 2-4, as members of the St. George's boys' team. St. George's finished with a 3-4 record. Kelowna won the event. More info is on the Smithers Secondary Facebook page.

Charity Skins Bonspiel a great success!

Thanks to the generosity of participants, the 20th annual Barry Naimark Charity Skins Bonspiel, held this past weekend (Mar. 3-5), raised $3,400 for the St. James Music Academy for inner-city youth. The finals were exciting with the A final coming down to a 13 skin carry over with a draw to the button to win. Congratulations to Team Brown - Chris Brown, Craig Whitaker, Makoto Tsukishima and Hamish Macdonald!

Other events were won by: B Final: Team Gardner - Paul Dunkin, Mickey Bishop, Rob Gardner and Jurgen Wolter. C Final: Team Tully - Brock Tully, Jeff Guinard, Chris Faa and Nick Kuit. D Final: Team McKenzie - Jerry McKenzie, Rob Goble, John Meier and Bill McGinty. Congratulations everyone!

BC seniors finish 4-5 at Canadians

The BC senior men's tean, including VCC curler Stan Walker, finished up the week with a 4-5 record at the Everest Canadian Seniors Curling Championships in Frederiction, NB. BC was 3-3 in their pool round robin, tied for third with PEI and Newfoundland, but those two teams advanced to the championship pool as they had both defeated BC. BC was then 1-2 in their seeding pool matches. Alberta won the final over Ontario. The BC team pictured below is, left to right, Craig Lepine, Stan Walker, Craig Mcleod and Mike Pellech.

VCC curlers second at BC Mixed

Three VCC curlers were on a team out of Richmond CC that finished second at the BC Mixed Curling Championship in Parksville, Mar. 2-5. Jaime McLaren, Heather Hansen and Chris Chute teamed up with Richmond skip Aaron Watson, losing the championship final to three-time former BC mixed champion Tom Buchy from Kimberley.

The Andrew Forrest team from VCC (Becky Abbot, Dave Marchant and Alison DenToom) went 1-3 in the triple knockout event.

Coyne and Graham win Doubles Bonspiel

VCC curlers Craig Coyne and Kayla Graham won the A event in the Doubles Bonspiel on Saturday, Feb. 18, beating VCC juniors Ardis Mellor-Laing and Marcus Dee in the final. For all the results go to the Doubles Bonspiel page.

VCC juniors win Optimist League

Congrats to VCC curlers for winning the top Division 1 league title in the Optimist Junior Interclub Curling League this season. Switzer wins Harry Jerome Comeback Award

Keith Switzer VCC curler Keith Switzer has won the Harry Jerome Comeback Award from Sport BC for winning a BC masters championship after a near-fatal heart attack.

VCC curlers at belairdirect BC Men's Championship

The belairdirect BC Men's Curling Championship was in Abbotsford Feb. 8-12 with VCC curlers on two of the 12 teams. Jeff Guignard skipped a full team of VCC curlers with third Chris Faa, second Jeff Sargeant and lead Nick Kuit. Richard Brower and Jan Bos threw fourth and third rocks respectively on the Mike Moss team. The John Morris team won the event, defeating Dean Joanisse in the final. PRCL teams at Gay Nationals, Feb. 10-12

Two Pacific Rim Curling League teams from VCC were at the Canadian Gay Curling Championships in Montreal, Feb. 10-12. The Jack Holmes team (Mark Trowell, Jeff Berg and Gerald Gunn) and the Scott Robertson team (Greg Ohashi, Gerhard Maynard, Michael Anhorn and Kevin Mintenko) were trying to continue a streak in which PRCL teams have won the championship six of the past 11 years and the last five years in a row.
