Team Faa are Lower Mainland Champions

Congratulations to Team Faa for capturing the Lower Mainland Division of the BC Dominion Club Challenge.

The team finished the round-robin portion tied for first in their pool with 2 wins (over Port Moody and Abbotsford) and 1 loss (to Coquitlam). They won a set of coin tosses so Team Faa had only to play one tie-breaker, and they defeated Coquitlam in that game to advance to the semi-finals.

Pictured left to right, Allen Ho (lead), Sean Ramsay (second), Jan Bos (third) and Chris Faa (skip) earned a one-point win over the 2008 Champions from Golden Ears to advance to the final. Once there, they played very well to hold a three-point lead heading into the final end, and they captured the title with a 5-2 win over Langley. Team Faa - 2011 Lower Mainland Club Champions

As a result of their win, Team Faa's season has been extended by one more week. The team continues to represent the VCC as they now move onto the BC Dominion Club Challenge / Pacific International Cup from April 20-24, 2011. So head on over to the Richmond Curling Club this Easter long weekend to cheer on Team Faa in their quest to become provincial club champions.

Team Faa plays together in the VCC's Thursday Open league, and they earned the right to represent the Club by winning the VCC's Club Challenge Playdowns in February. During the club's playdowns, Team Faa won the men’s division in an exciting final game over Team Glandt (Granville Island Open). Team Faa was up 5-1 after five ends, only to see Team Glandt score 2 in the sixth end and steal 3 more in the seventh end. Team Faa, down 1 but with the hammer, engineered an eigth-end comeback to score 4 for a final score of 9-6.

Team Faa was joined at the Lower Mainland Division of the BC Dominion Club Challenge by Team Inglis (Tuesday Night Women's league). Team Inglis - skip Sharon Inglis, third Sharon Carefoot, second Pat Upper, lead Debby Vollbrecht, and alternate Charlotte Edwards - did not fare as well as they would've liked - they were eliminated after the round-robin portion of the event. However, both Team Inglis and Team Faa are to be congratulated for representing the VCC for the second consecutive season.
