VCC to Host 2014 BC Men's Curling Championship
Curl BC is pleased to announce that the 2014 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship will be hosted at the Vancouver Curling Club and will run from February 5-9, 2014.
The Championship will follow a 16-team triple knockout with a four-team page playoff format. Similar to the women’s event, the 2013 champion and the men’s leader on the Canadian Team Ranking System as of December 1, 2013 will capture the first two berths. The remaining spots will be declared through regional playdowns. The winner will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier.
The BC Men’s Curling Championship has produced four national championship teams skipped by Frenchy D’Amour (Trail – 1948), Lyall Dagg (Vancouver – 1964), Rick Folk (Kelowna – 1994) and Greg McAulay (Royal City – 2000).
The Vancouver Curling Club is located at Hillcrest Centre in the facility that hosted the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games curling competitions. With eight sheets of ice in a modern, bright and accessible building, the VCC has more than 1,100 members who participate in 20 leagues.
Established in 1912, the VCC has a history of excellence with almost 50 club teams winning provincial championships, including: 24 Men's, 7 Women's, 4 Mixed, 7 Senior Men's, 1 Senior Women's, 1 Master Men's, 1 Junior Men's, and 1 Junior Women's. The VCC is also the proud home of the Lyall Dagg team who won the MacDonald Brier and Men's World Championship in 1964.
